Default Disappointing August vs June/July...

We've had some very pleasant warm sunshine the last few days,
especially right on the south coast (and the odd rather intense
thunderstorm last Thurs/Friday!). Cloud broke noon today to give a
pleasant afternoon, and there was actually some reasonable surf on the
south coast where it wasn't chopped up. The sea felt lovely at 18C. I
was joined by a seal for the 2nd time this year.

I was on holiday near Penzance during the first two weeks in August and it
was very pleasant indeed, if not a little too breezy on one or two days.
However, I think those big banner headlines that appeared in the newspapers
(well, some of them) about August being even hotter that July, are begining
to look a little less likely now as the evenings begin to draw in rapidly.

By the way, what is the general feeling about the official start of autumn?
Some people proclaim it to be the beginning of September although I like to
think it's September 21st (but then again, I hate to see the back of
'summer' and so I'm in no rush to welcome what our chums across the pond
refer to as 'the fall').

A bit off topic, I know, but I went to a local plant stockist at the weekend
looking for some late summer plants for a little colour, only to find shrubs
and... wait for it... some Christmas arrangements!

Hoping for at least one last BBQ... David Allan.
