Disappointing August vs June/July

Don't know what's happened to the suggestions of fine, warm weather
later in the week, it now doesn't seem to be arriving until Sunday
though the Met Office (if maybe not the GFS) is suggesting one good day
this week, on Thursday.
There seems to be a significant risk that this month will be all of
cloudier, cooler and wetter than average, particularly the further
north and east you go. I'm wondering if the lack of continuity in the
fine spell is linked to differences in the upper air pattern in July,
the "good" (subjective I know) weather this year being more down to a
persistent southerly setup than an anticyclonic one.... and whether all
those years where the fine weather continued throughout August
(1947/49/55/59/75/76/83/84/89/90/95) had a stronger upper high, which
perpetuated the fine spell for a longer period.

I would think that the CET would be near or slightly above average so far
this month. Although it has been much cooler than July it hasn't been all
that cool really. I would guess that people have adapted somewhat to the hot
temperatures in July and so with the drop in temperature in August people
suddenly think it has gone cold. I would expect the rainfall to be near
average as well, as although there have been a fair few days with rain this
month it seems to have been of the showery variety rather than the steady
prolonged frontal variety (down here at least).
