Yes Jane, we were trying to put off the evil day, but the head was set on
having more parking space. The Town Council had been negotiating a lease
for
the site, and John Goulborn was in favour of that while he was there, but
the District stalled, I guess because they were bowing to pressure from
the
current head. But I hear from the Town Clerk that a lease is on offer for
the new site, so the town may yet get a secure station plot. Yes too, the
new site is more open, and has a better exposure. The old site had become
rather sheltered, especially in the last couple of years, as my attempts
to
get the trees along the brook lopped came to nothing. When we installed
the
weather station at the Secondary School in 1976, the area was quite open,
and the Rivers Authority (or maybe Thames Water then), used to clear the
banks of the Emm every year, but not any more. It is now the
responsibility
of the Environment Agency, but they only appear when a tree actually falls
into the brook. As well as the trees, the school buildings have gradually
been added to, and that didn't help the exposure much either. I do not use
the computer facilities at the school, but have all my own gear at home,
including satellite tracking station etc. All the data is stored and
distributed from here. Do feel free to call if you would like to have a
tour..my e-mail address in on the Wokingham Weather web site.

Thank you. I would love to look one day, but I left Emmbrook because we
moved down to Surrey. However, I will contact you if I am back "home"
sometime.
Sorry, I thought you used the school as a base, but your suberb website is
obviously housed on a better computer than the school could furnish!
