Winds dropped right off now. Maximum gust here just 47mph at around
17:00, not even a gale away from the immediate sea front. Sea quite
rough for a couple of hours. No rain. Big non event. In the last 15
years I have recorded 281 days with stronger gusts! The only place to
get anything remotely severe was Scilly.
There's been a lot of uncertainty with this one all along, Graham, which I
thought had been conveyed well enough so I guess it comes down to your own
expectations. The current obs indicate there's a decent gale in the W (gust
59KT at Rosslare for example) and the risk of severe gales was high enough
to warrant some flash warnings for the extreme W. 40KT gusts inland
certainly made tennis a bit tricky here this evening :-)
At least the surfers were happy

my mum also commented on the decent swell/surf to the east near
Christchurch.
