Just an update from my post of yesterday 17mm of rain fell in Redhill,

I was underneath the 17mm - which all fell within 15 minutes,
accompanied by almost continuous lightning and thunder. The drains could
not cope and there were 25cm deep puddles in places with flooding into
buildings where it simply came under the doors. Once the rain diminished
the waters receded quickly with whirlpools showing where the drains were.
