August vs September

It seems to the ordinary person as though September has been warmer and
sunnier than August. Is there any possibility of this being the case, and
if so when did it last happen?

At my location, it has been a warm month, but not as warm as August, and
anything but sunny. It will be the wettest September in my record (it
is raining as I type).
At the other end of the east coast (Canterbury in Kent):
September:
Mean Max 23.4C
Mean 18.4C
Mean Min 13.4C
Rain 7.6mm
August:
Mean Max 21.6C
Mean 17.2C
Mean Min 12.9C
Rain 110.5mm
Only two days in September have failed to reach 20C (19.8C on 22nd and
19.5C on 25th).
8 wet days in September (so far!); 8 dry days in August!
