Sting jet in evidence on the southern flank of the low
affecting the SW
coast of France.
Following gusts reported at 0500Z :-
Biscarosse 82KT
Socoa 64KT
Cap Ferret 58KT
Biarrritz 56KT
Can't see evidence of a sting jet in satellite imagery , wonder
if the
gusts are due to convective downdrafts (sferics in area) or
orographic
effects from the Pyrenees,
Well spotted ... as I'm here, or "there" for you (well, somewhat
further
north in the Haute Vienne) I can confirm much medium level
electrical
activity on Mon evening, a dramatic cold frontal passage this
morning
just before 10am CET with ugly clouds,
sudden rain squalls, a sharp wind veer and rapid increase, and a
sudden
temperature drop from 18 ot 11C. The strongest winds (I'd estimate
gusting
50-60kn) were immediately behind the cold front, i.e. between 10am
and
midday. Many trees and branches brought down, in turn bringing
down
power lines. We were without power here from 11am to 10pm ...
great
fun.
