The last few weeks have taken a knock on my confidence of the synoptic
charts beyond 48h. It just goes to show how difficult it is not just to
predict the detail, but general changes in the weather as well. I do a
review for work and the H+120 has sometimes shown little relation to the
analysis.
We all know that when it comes to winter conditions - you have to look at
H+24 for any real idea - and even then its far from a cert!

This is very true Phil. I am always amazed when the model predictions
e.g. the H+120 has proved spot on - and equally astonished with the
other scenario when another day's run update has turned the forecast on
its head. It would probably be more boring for us Brits if we could
always be so certain though - what would become of our newsgroup?!!
