Don't worry about the trolls, Will - seems like some people get upset when
they see how much others are enjoying life...!

And as for forecasters finding 'some' weather reports useful, well, yes
they do on a few occasions in a year when extremes occur, but to imply
that in a mild southwesterly that forecasters at Exeter would need to
confirm that the high ground on the Moors of SW England have low
cloud/fog and drizzle is, frankly, an insult to their intelligence.

Is it? You were a forecaster John not so long ago, so pray tell me how you would
know if it was drizzling on Dartmoor with no observations? Radar doesn't pick up
drizzle necessarily. How would you know what the cloud base was with no obs? I
have seen many SW'lys that have not given hill fog so to make generalizations is
very dangerous.
I live here and I know how variable things can be in what others may think are
homogeneous airmasses. Forecasters always want "ground truth" observations, I
would have thought that you being an ex-forecaster would have known that?
Or are you happy that everything can be done centrally with no obs, just
un-scientific pre-conceptions?
Glad you appreciate the value of snow reports though, at least that's something!

Will.
