Default Copley - near gale

Hi, All,

Amazing to read the threads on fog, light winds and smoke because here
the mean wind for the past 10 minutes was 27033G41KT, 1KT below
gale-force!
I assume a Pennine Wave is on as there are several lenticular clouds
forming. I expect it to fluctuate through the night as these waves do -
probably enough for me to get some sleep later.
The weather variations in our small country never cease to fascinate
me!

The gradient was expected to increase this evening over northern England
aiding wave generation and I'd image this is the primary cause for what
you've experienced again, Ken. SIGMETs have been running all day for severe
mountain waves for the Scottish Flight Information Region (FIR) and may now
be required for the north of the London FIR.

The wave motion over Scotland still evident on the IR loop

Rainfall to the east of Scotland appears to be of the standing wave variety
and earlier there was a report of severe icing south of Aberdeen probably
attributed to the waves.
