It would appear our esteemed forecasters did as good a job as our
cricketers... :-/
Yes, it looks like the weather has had therm stumped.....
Actually, over the past couple of days the potential for
severe gales has been downgraded from 70mph
winds to just 50mph on the coast as of yesterday.
I assumed that this was simply because the band of
the strongests winds was expected to be ever further
east. But it seems like there has been little of note even
in the far SE.
Here in the west midlands, we have been becalmed since 1 am.
I foul up of momentous proportions !
Although to be fair the forecasts (both local & national) did emphasis
the uncertainty more than they normally do in such a developing
situation. But of course relatively few members of the general public
get upset when forecast severe weather fails to materialise unlike
the opposite sceanario!
What annoys me is when forecasters cheerfully say words to the
effect of - well at least we got away with it, as if that makes the
forecast of severe wather that doesn't happen not as bad as
unforecast severe weather that does happen.
However this morning to her credit Helen Willets seems quite
downbeat and almost apologetic about it.
