To add to the reports (see WR/OBS elsewhere), have just heard that a
house was struck by lightning a few streets away, possibly at the time
of the cable loss; when talking to NTL, they said they had had a large
number of failures across the (local) network due to lightning surges
(RG post codes). The local damage was to the aerial and attached
television, so compared to what it might have been, quite lucky.
