Thanks to Ken for pointing this out and to Philip for explaining what
happened.
It was late in the evening and the Leeming figure did not strike me as odd
at the time. Two other places well away from southern England - Kinloss
20.8°C and Lossiemouth 21.0°C - were also in the list of highest maxima.
I was writing with the memory of a fine and sunny day in Brussels in my
mind - to Ken under the cloudy northern English skies the discrepancy was no
doubt only too obvious !
