Inversion has had its day down here unfortunately and we have now

Stayed a brilliant clear and sunny day up here.

Max 8.6C (1200) Min -1.4 (2031). No wind to speak of until 1800 when an
F2 SE'll sprung up, since then the temp has been a bit wandery. It
dropped to that low then shot up to 2C between 2030 and 2100 but it's now
back below freezing. At around 1800 to 1900 it was a lovely clear starlit
night to welcome Santa to the Market Cross in Alston. Nice cresent moon
with earthshine as well.

During the day I could see fog lying further down the South Tyne valley
towards Slaggyford and the fire smoke was hanging low over Garrigill this
morning.
