None of our professionals could predict it? It seems to me to fit in
nicely with the Met Office's winter forecast, which IIRC was for mostly
mild conditions but with the possibility of some cold spells later in
the winter.

Here I am not even remotely worried that my £10 bet ( no 12 day
continuous period recording minima below OC) is even under threat down
here in deepest Dorset. Anyone venturing a bet on how long this scold
snap will last?
However,I will warn some blokes tridging over Dartmoor that it may
well be well, 'brisk'!

LOL "chuffing cold" I believe the phrase is.

I would say any cold spell could well last a week, but be prepared for a lot of
frost, dry weather and sunshine.
Any snow is more likely at the beginning of the spell before the high takes a
hold.
