Tons expected in the Alps next few days. Probably too much LOL.
Snowy charts in Britain too, especially in west and north, but promises
for the
SE too.
Interesting few days ahead.
High still showing signs of toppling but UKMO reluctant and in any event
cold
air hangs on at low levels in the south and east.

Will,

In the past I would have been really excited looking at the progs over the
next few days. The 528dm line is well clear of the S coast - there's a small
low coming down on Monday - all showing some nice snowy potential. However,
with the sea temp at 10-12c atm, I'm just not expecting much more than sleet
or if I'm lucky wet snow (certainly no settling) - even here in Guildford.
Perhaps its because of the GW stuff and that we are running 4c above the
norm - Just hope I'm wrong - but I shall definately not be getting the
sledge of of the attic just yet - that in the past has been a sure sign of
nothing even at H+24!

Phil

Ah but Phil, higher sea temps. means more powerful and deeper convection hence
the potential for greater inland penetration and lowering of wet-bulb freezing
levels etc. I agree rain/hail is possible *on* the coast but inland, showers
will turn readily to snow and if/when the -10C air at 850 HPa comes down, expect
the snow to settle at low elevations. Exposed hills (above 200m asl) could get
some good coverings. I understand your scepticism, it's been so warm, the next
few days will be a shock!

Will.
