Tons expected in the Alps next few days. Probably too much LOL.
My daughter will be thrilled - she is a snowyphile and has been in the
Swiss/French Alps (Morzine) all of last week with no snow and comes
home
from her first ski trip on Monday!!
I am like Phil, a bit concerned about settling snow. I don't know how
the
dynamics work at the interface between wet soil 8-10C and air temp of
+1C
but I know the stuff wouldn't settle in these condition two years ago
even
in heavy showers, although I believe that was the end of Feb/start of
March.
Thanks for the encouragement anyway!
Dave
More encouragement. Last winter one evening the ground was thoroughly wet
after
a mild spell and it started snowing. Within one hour 1 cm was laying.
It can happen quickly.
One event I'll always remember happened while I was still at school, about
1956.
Just after 2pm it went VERY dark, followed by thunder, lightning and
torrential rain
which continued until I was leaving school at 3:30 when it turned to snow.
By bedtime
we had about 6 inches and more than a foot the next morning. This was
Sittingbourne, in North Kent.
Yes, I remember quite a few like that in the fifties and sixties!
