RMK: Moderate hoar frost. Ground frozen hard. Such low temperatures
are uncommon here without a snow cover.
.... similar comment would apply here Norman. Looking back at our short
record (since 2000), minima = -6°C aren't that common anyway; the
lowest value (over these few years) was -6.7°C on 1st January, 2002 and
that was NOT accompanied by a snow cover of any sort, but generally, we
need some sort of snow cover for something below -4°C to be reliably
experienced (bearing in mind these comments apply to a suburban back
garden, not a 'standard' open-field site).
