"Brandon Hansen considers the statistical accuracy of popular on-line
weather forecast sources and shows who's on target, and on who you
probably shouldn't rely. Motivated by a trip to a water park that was
spoiled with hail despite a 'clear sky' forecast, he does a nice job of
depicting deviations, averages, and overall accuracy in a manner that
stats junkies are sure to love."
Might be interesting to some to read the article and some of the comments!
Ooh thank you for that!
Noting the results for the BBC web site in particular, and given that their
5-day forecasts are generally identical (whenever I have checked) to those on
the Met. Office web site, the article would seem to support the view to which I,
and no doubt many other people, subscribe: Accurately forecasting the weather
is not possible. Having said that, I am not sure that looking primarily at
temperature is adequate.
