Can't find the one that used to be on Maplins, but there's one on
Conrad Electronics looks to be a slightly later version of the one I
bought from there a year ago:

Search 'rain gauge'. £20.99. Recommended.

.... a word of caution Conrad. I too ordered one of these units a few
weeks ago. It arrived in it's own small box, which had been packed in a
*much* larger cardboard travel box, but there was *no* intermediate
packing of any kind between the product box and the travelling box -
consequently this unit had been allowed to rattle around in transit, and
I wasn't overly surprised when I found that the unit would not work
properly.

Conrad refunded IN FULL (i.e. including my return postage) the full cost
of the unit, and promised to look at the packaging of such items so I
can't fault them on the after-sales, but if you do decide to order, it
might be as well to ask if it will be packaged properly to avoid damage
in transit.

Martin.
