Yes ... 26.7 at Southampton National Oceanography Centre,
but as I and others have said we are not sure of the location
of the temperatures sensors. If it is a rooftop site then it
will not count.

Subsequently adjusted, according to the Met Office website, to
26.6 deg C. It's almost as if someone down Exeter way has read this
thread and decided that the site's a bit too dodgy to let it have that
magic first 80 degrees F of the year.

I am endeavouring to find out the site details of the
Climatological station at the NOC and I will report back if I make any
progress; the person I need to speak to there is currently away from the
office but if anyne else out there knows the answer, please let us know! My
inclination currently is that it will turn out to be a rooftop or mast mounted
AWS but we shall see.

Dave, it would be interesting to know if there's anything left in
Mayflower Park too. The climat station stopped appearing in the
MWR decades ago, but you never know, the city council may
have installed their own AWS.

Philip

You had me confused for a moment Philip, 'til I realised you are
probably taking in the sun in France!

I want to get to the bottom of the sometimes odd looking maxima being
reported at Southampton NOC and Solent MRSC and I'm sure that before
too iong I'll be paying a visit to Southampton. I will be sure to
include Mayflower Park.

Yesterday I spent an hour or so wandering around the Lee-on-the Solent
beach and promenade with digital themometer in hand. Depending on
where I was and how strong the Northerly wind was, the aspirated air
temperature (taken by whirling my thermometer probe around on the end
of its wire, LOL) ranged between 16.5 deg C and 19.5 deg C at a time
(1700 GMT +/- 15 minutes) when Solent MRSC reported 19.0 degrees. The
range of 'air' temperatures in such a small area surprised me. I shall
be back there again, when conditions are suitable and I have the time.
