I am endeavouring to find out the site details of the
Climatological station at the NOC and I will report back if I make any
progress; the person I need to speak to there is currently away from the
office but if anyne else out there knows the answer, please let us know! My
inclination currently is that it will turn out to be a rooftop or mast mounted
AWS but we shall see.
Dave, it would be interesting to know if there's anything left in
Mayflower Park too. The climat station stopped appearing in the
MWR decades ago, but you never know, the city council may
have installed their own AWS.

I want to get to the bottom of the sometimes odd looking maxima being
reported at Southampton NOC and Solent MRSC and I'm sure that before
too iong I'll be paying a visit to Southampton. I will be sure to
include Mayflower Park.
I've now heard from my NOC contact and all sensors are on a high flat
and exposed rooftop.
The site was chosen, it seems, to make wind measurements as
representative as possible of conditions on Southampton Water, which
is not unreasonable for an Oceanography Centre with its own berth at
the adjacent docks. The station is 26.5m above ordnance datum Newlyn
but it isn't clear if that refers to the anemometer or the other
instruments.
I'm a bit disappointed that it's a rooftop site but this is not
unexpected news. When I next go to Southampton, I'll check to see if
the instrument enclosure is visible (as I am sure the amemometer is)
and let's hope it isn't too near the air conditioning plant on the
towers! I will also check out Mayflower Park.
