The NEIC list says earthquake though. (Only just made it on -the
criteria is that outside the States, they do not list quakes under
4M.)

The location fix from the USGS put it just offshore, S of Dymchurch.
So it's likely the explosion was as a result of the earthquake, not a
cause.


BGS interview on the TV indicated that the offshore feature that produced
the event is well known....
