Dave, do you keep a rain-gauge in your garden too? Now that
the resorts have gone, there's nothing immediately available
between Thorney Island and Hurn since Solent and NOC are
inappropriate sites for measuring rain. Thorney Island reported
none at all in April, Hurn ~5mm, but these days you can never
be sure whether the tipping-bucket mechanism is working or not
during periods with only small amounts of rain. Nigel's figure
at Romsey should be interesting too.
Yes I do Philip and I recorded only 3.0 mm here for April but it is a
home made and self-calibrated guage in a smallish back garden. There
was 0.5mm on the 24th and 2.5 mm on the 26th (the latter from a sharp
shower or two). I'd have thought Thorney would have had something on
the 24th (light rain and drizzle) but the 26th would have been more of
a hit-and-miss affair. I hope they are still recording rainfall at
Thorney, there are few enough rainfall recording sites in my part of
the World, though the EA must have a few in South Hants.
