May/June is often the best time in the NW but if you get any sort of
northerly it can get pretty cold. Given the right situation fresh snow can
be seen on the mountains.

I have of NW Scotland, low cloud and mist!
However I will be going a lot further north than Skye.
It's on that little strech of north-facing coastline which is
about the same latitude as Stornoway.
So pretty remote, I doubt my mobile phone will work,
do they even have television up there
I take you point about the northerlies. I was wondering
how cold it could be in certain conditions, the sea will
still be pretty cold and there ain't much between there
and the arctic.
So pack the shorts along with a winter coat basically.
