Col,
As a taster you might like to look at the following webcams from time to
time

May/June is often the best time in the NW but if you get any sort of
northerly it can get pretty cold. Given the right situation fresh snow can
be seen on the mountains.
Thanks for that, they certainly seemed to portray the image
I have of NW Scotland, low cloud and mist!
However I will be going a lot further north than Skye.
It's on that little strech of north-facing coastline which is
about the same latitude as Stornoway.
Sounds like you must be going somewhere near Lochinver. The coast
roads which run from Scourie to Kylesku to Lochinver to Achiltibuie is
indescribably beautiful. There is nowhere in Britain to match it.
It isn't always low cloud and mist. If you're lucky you'll enjoy
fantastic views and you'll have wonderful beaches all to yourself.
I can vouch for mobile phones not working! Two summers ago we somehow,
and I still don't know how, locked ourselves out of our car on the
stretch of road from Kylesku to Clashmore. There was absolutely no
signal from the mobile, but after 20 minutes a car heading west
stopped and the driver promised he would phone the RAC for us when he
found a phone box. An hour later the driver of a camper van coming the
other way stopped to tell us that he had a message for us from the
driver we had spoken to earlier to say that he had found a call box
and that RAC had been contacted and was on its way!!!
