I'm trying to locate articles from S G Irvine (Whalsay,

Shetland)
in
Weather (including - if possible - Letters to the Editor).
Unfortunately my one and only floppy disk "List of Weather

Articles
1946-1995" is now unreadable.
Samuel wrote several (I believe three) in-depth articles

about
the
Shetland weather (the first back in 1963) as well as a number

of
letters to the magazine.
Before I resort to looking through all my annual index copies

of
Weather for the past 40+ years, I wonder if any kind reader

has
access to the List and might thus save me some time!

Stephen,
Just what I was looking for! Many thanks.
I'll drop you an email as I would appreciate the file.

It would transfer faster if you converted it into a text file. I
suppose it might depend on what the formatting is on the .doc file
whether that is a good idea.

Open the file and copy it into Notepad and see what changes occur.
Just save the file as .txt instead of .doc.
When you replace the ending of the file in Properties, your own

copy
of it will change too.

Having an 'always on' broadband connection (allbeit only half meg) I
tend not to worry too much about filesize. However I realise that not
everyone has broadband, so don't send a large file without the
recipients permission. Very large files (the mags I send pics to not
uncommonly want anything between 20-40MB - or even more) I usually
arrange to upload via ftp.
If you have the software as an add-in, converting to PDF can reduce
filesize considerably without mucking up formatting.
