I've just returned from Wootton, IOW (opposite side to
St. Catherine's Point shown above) where 60.7mm fell
in the 24 hour period 27/0900-28/0900Z, the wettest
such period in any month since 31 July 1978. The rain
was relentless, mostly in the heavy category but never
torrential. Total rainfall for the 48 hour period ending
28/0900Z was 67.0mm.

The total rainfall for the event (48 hour period) here in West Fareham
(less than 10 miles N/NW of Wootton) was a mere 30.7 mm. Quite a
difference.
