The total rainfall that has fallen on Sheffield this month stands at an
amazing 269mm. Farsley which is withing 6 miles of Leeds City Centre has
had an amazing 250mm. Both these totals are records for June and for any
month since records began in both Cities.
Rob, 302mm fell at Lawnswood and 301mm at Hollies Park, and
302mm at Eccup Reservoir, and 292mm at Weetwood, all in and
around Leeds, in June 1982. Up to 260mm fell in the outskirts
of Sheffield during the same month. 285mm fell on the Loxley
catchment (near Low Bradfield) just west of Sheffield in July
1973. Those are the two months I remember floods in Yorkshire
making the news in a big way. I haven't researched any others.

Philip.
Not a summer month, but I recall Sheffield station severely damaged by rain
in December 1991?? We were driving to the Dales from the South and there was
widespread flooding in the North, though possibly also as a result of
melting snow. IIRC.
