Beginning to wonder if the theme has been set for this summer.
Jon.
I think it's a bit early to write off the summer; in some years there is a
major change of ' weather type' around the second week of July. 1999 was a
recent example when a lousy June was promptly followed by a warm July.
Going back further I recall, in 1955, a poor June revived memories of
the awful summer of 1954. But in early July the Azores High spread
north-east and July and August were warm and dry. In 1957, a hot June
broke down in early July and there was hardly a dry day thereafter. Of
course, this change of 'weather type' doesn't happen every year, but it's
too early to tell whether it will happen this year. However, looking at the
GFS charts for next week , they suggest that pressure will be higher in the
south later next week than for some time.
