The middle part of next week will see a mobile flow over the UK, with a
ridge bringing a respite before more unsettled weather moves in from the
west.

Low pressure lies to the NE, with a weak ridge over the UK. Winds are
westerlies for most as a result. A low moves over Scotland overnight and
into tomorrow, leading to strong westerlies and WSW'lies. The westerlies
persist on Saturday as the low moves away to the NE. Sunday sees a ridge
over England and Wales, with westerlies elsewhere.

The jet stream chart shows a southerly tracking jet across the North
Atlantic, with the UK under a trough. At the 500hPa level there's a trough
over the UK and a low to the SE. MetO has a trough to the NE, while ECM has
a low to the WNW. GEM places an upper low on top of the UK and NGP shows a
deeper low to the north.
At the surface GFS brings WNW'lies for all, with a low over Germany and a
ridge to the west. MetO also shows WNW'lies and a ridge to the west, while
ECM brings lighter WSW'lies and a weak ridge for the UK. GEM shows a low
over the southern North Sea, with NW'lies for the UK as a result. NGP brings
a trough over the UK, with southerlies in advance and westerlies following
behind.

Evolution to T+168
ECM shows a shallow low over the UK on day 6, with NW'lies on day 7 as the
low moves away to the east.
GFS brings a ridge and light winds over the UK on day 6, followed by a
trough and NW'lies on day 7.

Looking further afield
Low pressure becomes slow-moving to the west with ECM. On day 8 NW'lies
cover the UK, with light winds due to a col on day 9. By day 10 a low
deepens to the west, drawing a ridge and southerlies over the UK.
GFS also shows a low, but it's more mobile than with ECM. Day 8 sees
WNW'lies and a ridge over Ireland, followed by westerlies and SW'lies as the
low moves eastwards on day 9. By day 10 SW'lies cover all areas as a low
fills west of Ireland.
