I also made one from a kit around 30 years ago, and only had to
replace it last year. I completed it an a week or so. It did involve
using half the house to lay out the pieces though.
.... not sure if this would give you any ideas, but when I made my own
screen (and another for my sister) a few years back, I used the vents
that are recommended for allowing air to gas installations etc.,
available from any DIY shop. You can get a broad idea of the

Although it wouldn't pass muster for 'official' observations, I was
pleasantly surprised when I had an overlap period with Beaufort Park
back in 1999-2003. The only thing to say is don't assume that plastic
= no painting. In my experience, white plastic turns increasingly
'off-white' with time, so I paint the panels along with the rest of
the screen (which is wood BTW).
