Oh dear, I just saw a graphic simulation of the storm with an eye like a

I saw this too. The eye passed directly over the isle of Wight, later
hit London head on, and then moved north to the Wash. The swirl was
impressive - and four times larger than a hurricane the narrator said
in the opening title.
I always thought the depression had a track approximately Exmouth,
Bridgewater, across to the East Midlands and then continuing north
east.
