My point exactly ... the seasons are a function of astronomical fact .....
the weather is altogether different and often may not oblige us by being
'summery' in the summer.

It is so tiring when people think of equinox and solstice as a
'beginning'
when of course they are the mid-point. Historically, the May Day
celebration served the purpose of welcoming in the summer.
I try not to think of equinoxes and solstices as having anything
to do with the weather at all.
They are astronomical rather than meteorological phenomena.
