Not being a nautical type I don't normally pay attention to the shipping
forecast, but after you post I had a look at the MetO warnings, e.g.

What really caught my eye was the Sea State detail, "Rough or very
rough, becoming high or very high, occasionally phenomenal later." I can
only imagine what "phenomenal" means. Like you said, "pity the poor
fishermen".

It's looking nasty for Cornwall as per the updated early warninghttp://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_warnings.html

The 06Z run of the WRF model indicated sustained winds in excess of 50KT for
a timehttp://www.meteociel.fr/modeles/wrfnmm/nmm-3-28-1.png?08-15

Jon.

I see gusts of up to 80mph predicted for Penzance
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/...t_weather.html and
Penzance is sheltered from the west. Porthleven looks like really
catching it.

Hopefully the warnings have been sufficient to ensure the fishermen
are all back in Newlyn.

I remember a severe gale a few years back, which affected the whole
south coast, the BBC sent a reporter to the Serpentine to show how
rough it was. (This is not a joke).
