I think you underestimate people unless you tell them they will never know,
a lot of people know about the jetstream from their flights across the pond

Jet streams are for grown-ups, not the child-like
ignoramuses the media are trying to turn us into (possibly in their
own image).
As to solar forecasts, what element is predicted? The sun
will rise; the sun will set. If it gets high in the sky you will get
burnt if you lie out in it for too long. Doesn't sound too difficult.

Most people do not have a meteorological background so would not know the
significance of the jet stream. There is only so much you can fit into a
two minute forecast and I think the surface charts are far easier for the
layperson to digest than trying to show and explain jet streams.
