I detest the dumbed-down rubbish as spouted by the likes of
Mr Corbett as much as you but I don't ever recall a time when
jet streams were routinely mentioned in UK forecasts.

Nor do I. But they seem to be routinely mentioned in US forecasts, and I
find it hard to believe that the average American viewer is more
intelligent than the average British viewer.
