Jet streams are for grown-ups, not the child-like
ignoramuses the media are trying to turn us into (possibly in their
own image).

I detest the dumbed-down rubbish as spouted by the likes of
Mr Corbett as much as you but I don't ever recall a time when
jet streams were routinely mentioned in UK forecasts.

Nor do I. But they seem to be routinely mentioned in US forecasts, and I
find it hard to believe that the average American viewer is more
intelligent than the average British viewer.

Hmmm. Caught a bit of Live from the Met on R3 this evening, and was
pleasantly re-assured by the commentators that not all of our Cousins
differ as much as some might think. Indeed, they sounded perfectly
normal.

Would be very pleasant if the BBC could find the courage and ability to
present at an intelligent adult level. I understand the need to leave
the less bright or less interested adequately informed, but some of the
current presentation is really rather wince-making. Being told how as
well as what would help.

Have known the jet-stream be mentioned very much as an exception on BBC
TV.
