The media reflect the general lack of education about the weather in the
UK. The BBC is wholly responsible for this. Dumbing down forecasts to a
level where any departure from average temperature is made to appear
sensational in order to grab the viewer and stop him changing channels.
Style before content. I don't blame the Daily Express, they are not a
public service.

I don't know whether the BBC should take all the blame. What about the Met
Office for supplying them with dumbed-down presenters? Tori Lacey has been
banging on about the "bitter, bitter" weather all this week on Radio Five.

It is nothing like bitter FHS :-(

It's been going for a while now, as Helen Young once said on a January day
that the weather would "remain cold" when the temperature had been 10C with
light winds, and on another occasion that there would be "dense fog with
visibilities down to 300M"!


300m dense?
Dense is what we get up here regularly every time we get a wet southwesterly
i.e. less than 50 metres vis.
