Two winters ago we were up at High Willhays (621m) in deep snow,
temperatures -1 to -2C and a wind of at least force 4 occ 5 with lots of
riming on the summit.
I went for a walk up to Yes Tor two winters ago. The Tor was covered in snow
and ice, the sun was shining out of a cloudless, deep blue sky. There wasn't
a breath of wind.
Icicles were hanging from the granite tors, and these were sparkling in the
sunshine. There was nobody about and looking into the heart of Dartmoor was
just a deep layer of virgin snow stretching to the horizon. We walked for
hours around the tors, it was magical.
