I'm really surprised at that one Steve, thought it would have been
higher!
Here our highest rainfall total from 1960 to 1996 stood at 934.6 in 1966
but since 1997 we've gone well past that total on a number of occasions.
1997 941.8mm
1999 1033.6mm
2000 1127.3mm
2004 1009.2mm
2007 966.5mm (so far)
Hi Graham
Our rainfall totals for the years above were as follows:
1997 608.6mm
1999 775.1mm
2000 801.2mm
2004 717.5mm
Remember, we are very much in a rain shadow area here, so we usually
miss the heaviest of the rain experienced elsewhere in the West
Midlands - the Birmingham Plateau has a profound effect on Coventry's
weather, arguably making it also the sunniest place in the West
Midlands.
In 2007 however, we were right on the dege of the June'July deluge,
though catching no where near as much rain as Hereford and
Worcestershire. I would be interested to see the Pershore annual
rainfall total when it is available, for example.
I do have some annual rainfall totals fpr 1870 to 1892 for Coventry,
but haven't checked them out yet, though 1872, 1876, 1878, 1880, and
1882 look like very high totals to me, perhaps too high - do you have
some RF totals for for E&W for that period, Philip I wonder?

Here in North leeds rainfall figures as follows:
2002 988mm
2003 573mm
2004 821mm
2005 620mm
2006 678mm
2007 833mm
30 year average is 646mm for this area.
St Albans rainfall figures are as follows:
2002 698mm
2003 446mm
2004 593mm
2005 518mm
2006 644mm
2007 723mm
The measurements are from a Davis VP1 station - a tipping bucket design.
