Default Severe gales and sharp falls in temperature at the cold front

Is your VP wireless or cabled? I've seen numerous previous reports of
wireless VPs logging very high gusts in heavy rain and, possibly, a
bit of hail; I suspect it's a signal propagation fault. (One occasion
I saw a report, by a very excited observer, of a gust of something
like 160 mph - ermm, let me explain what 160 mph would actually do to
hour house, never mind your anemometer ...)

If you're in doubt, there's little or no significant damage (even if
very local) and it doesn't fit the local gust field, I'd doubt the
reading.

To answer all questions:

The wired VP is located about 4 km W of Monmouth at 77m. The exposure
to the SE-NW is open (falling away to 30m across 4 miles of valley).
The anemometer is atop a 5m pole and, apart from one gutter end being
blown away, no other damage occurred.

So, I do very much doubt the veracity of the reading. My only other
query is what may have caused such an anomalous reading.

All the best,
