Penzance - Gales Torrential Rain & Floods
After this morning's gales, torrential rain followed - with large
hail.
This morning's big sea caused the prom to be completely closed to
traffic, I think for the 1st time this winter. The waves throwing the
seaweed as high as the guttering of the properties along the sea
front.
My trip to Morrisons was then timed (accidentally) to coincide with
the monsoon. Having ignored the road closed signs on the prom (the
tides was now well down) driven around the piles of seaweed & pebbles,
the main rainfall event started. Following 45 minutes of torrential
rain & hail we had to wade through a flooded car park to get to the
car. The dual carriageway past the heliport was flooded, but it was
just possible for a single file of traffic to get through. There was
flooding near the railway station, with water coming up through the
drains giving a rather attractive water feature effect.
Around 15mm in 45 minutes at my house, but the rainfall was more
intense a mile or so to the east.
Pleased to report that the stream at the bottom of my garden is still
where it should be.
