Interesting site. A bit off-topic but I had a look at Prestwick Airport
and was interested to see that the old A78 main road is still clearly
visible where it used to cross the runway towards its northern end,
before they built the by-pass in the 1970's. The crossing was
controlled by men in sentry boxes at each side of the crossing. Planes
had right of way!

I remember that, I also remember Stansted in the 1950's and 60's when the
main road crossed the very SW end of the runway-controlled by traffic lights
(the road crossing that is). Good spot for watching B707's doing training
circuits and troop flights with Britannias. The line of the road can still
be seen in the pic within the mass of later development.
