Snow lying on Dartmoor above 430m asl. A thin patchy covering (1-2cm) up to 500m
asl then looks whiter and deeper, especially looking over towards Princetown

and the high moorland plateau. Snow and hail showers continuing locally, snow
now more pellety as it has got colder. Quite black at times to north and west
with showers running down the Teign valley towards Teignmouth and down the Dart
valley towards Dartmouth. Managed to make a snowball for the dog to chase on Hay
Tor summit (450m asl) but had to use blown snow in the gullies as there is not a
full cover. The snow showers seem to be triggered locally as the moist sea air
rises over the moor, with further cold advection the snow level should descend
and amounts increase this evening and tonight. There was a gritter making its
way up the road earlier.
Temperature +1.3C and falling.
Will.
