I got these in Wallsend after noticing the unusual sky colour and
lightness. The camera had some difficulty in picking up the strange
colours but a quick tweek in Irfanview did the business.

Enhanced have _contrast in the filename

sunset showing strange hazy clouds and strange reddish halo / rainbow

tweeking the contrast shows nebulous high level cloud

http://llandru.servehttp.com/strange_light/P2180886.jpg The bizarre
skies and weird clouds are evident in this south facing pic. The cranes
are what's left of the Swan Hunter shipyard.

tweeking the contrast shows altocumulus or cirrocumulus at very high level.

showing strange light and complex cloud

cloud holds focus and is very detailed. Image was taken at 1650z.

Applying high contrast gets me this. NLC observers will recognise this
immediately! It's obviously high atmospheric but very complex.
