Turntable wise I eventually progessed to a

At the risk of someone screaming off topic: I had the Thorens 160
before purchasing the Linn, but I have to say some of the best sounds
I ever had from vinyl were from that humble Thorens 160 designed I
believe by Charlie Trayhorn now deceased for many a year. The Linn
Sondek was always overhyped (like global warming) by feint hearted hi-
fi journalist who became afraid of seeing the Emperor was in fact
starker's. It's gunny but there is possibly some parallel albeit on a
far smaller scale between GW and Hi-Fi or maybe a lesson in snake oil
selling. One such ethos in the Hi Fi guruism that spread in the
70-80's was that of mass loading of turntables, equipment and
rigidity were the utmost holy grail-crap the lot of it.
