UK max. temps on Thursday http://tinyurl.com/53yt3b

Thorney Island 17.0°C, Plymouth, Portland and Shoreham 17.2°C,
Great
Malvern and St Catherine’s Point 17.3°C, Filton and Hereford 17.4°C,
Glasgow Bishopton 17.5°C, Yeovilton 17.6°C, Bournemouth and Solent
MRSC 18.4°C.
.... for my own records, I'm going to 'flag' that Bournemouth (Hurn)
maximum as 'possibly suspect' (but not necessarily throw it out
altogether).
The highest hourly reading was 16.5°C at the 1050Z observation (when
we, and they had strong sunshine), but after that, the cloud cover was
pretty relentless, with BKN Sc, some Sc mamma / ISOL Cu med floating
about - and generally cloudy conditions for the remainder of the day -
the METARs don't convey the true character of the sky hereabouts. The
highest METAR reading was 17°C (whole deg. only), which was reported
at 1120Z, 1250Z & 1650Z. A northerly is a good direction of course to
achieve reasonable temperatures assuming strong sunshine, so it's just
possible that the temperature rose sharply in a short period to the
figure given.
