I can understand why London sites would have such high minima -
because of the heat-island - but why some of these others?

I think that, with the exception of Benson, the other non-London sites
are all coastal. Benson is a surprise to find in that list.

The minimum in Chalfont St Giles on Friday night was 15.8c. It was very
moist tropical maritime air with the dew point around 15c throughout
the night.
