I wouldn't begin to offer a reason why there is such
variability in what feels comfortable but there is no doubt that the
variability exists.
Could it be that we've been settled by everyone from Norway to Italy
and the proportion of that mix in our genes determines our weather
preferences?
An interesting theory. As far back as I can trace, my roots are in West
Scotland (mother's family) and NW Ireland (father's family). It's very
unlikely that there is any "southern" blood in me. That could account
for my preference for relatively cool weather :-) My wife can trace her
paternal ancestry to Poland and her maternal ancestry to Russia. She
also prefers cool weather, even cooler than my preference.

I think my preferences are more down to aesthetic appeal, I like cold
weather in winter, warm (not necessarily boiling hot) weather (with a
few heat-generated storms) in summer, and anything as long as it's
bright in spring. Then again it could be because I'm originally from
somewhere like southern Germany, which I guess is the region of Europe
those conditions are closest too...
